Back iTunes library and iTunes Store purchases

Published by iTunes Master on July 18th, 2011 - in iTunes

As an increase in the number of people to use iTunes, a common question that how to back up iTunes library and iTunes Store purchases has caused wide public concern. This question is usually precipitated by users suddenly discovering that their iTunes library has become corrupted or erased, or that their computer has suddenly died on them. If you lose a purchased item for any reason and haven’t backed it up, you’ll have to buy it again. So it’s necessary to make backups of purchases from the iTunes Store.

There are two measures for us to adopt, some people would like to back Up to Disc, which offered by iTunes itself, some people prefer to use Third-Party Backup Tools. However, I will introduce the first way here.

The first thing that you should do is to make sure that your computer must have a compatible DVD burner. iTunes contains a built-in backup feature that allows you to backup your iTunes library to recordable CD or DVD media. Although users have always been able to burn data discs manually with iTunes to backup their content, the built-in backup feature handles this process more seamlessly for you, spanning discs as necessary and most importantly backing up your playlists, rating and play count information in the process as well.

Secondly, to initiate a backup to CD/DVD in iTunes, simply choose File, Library, and Back Up to Disc from the iTunes menu. Once you’ve made your selection, you need simply click “Backup” and iTunes will prompt you to insert a blank CD or DVD disc if you have not already done so.

Finally, once you click OK, iTunes begins backing up your library. This backup includes all of your content: music, music videos, audio books, podcasts, movies, TV shows, and even Click Wheel iPod Games and iPod touch and iPhone applications. Library metadata such as playlists, ratings, and play counts are also backed up as part of this process. As iTunes fills each disc, it prompts you to insert the next one. When finished, you’ll have a complete set of discs that represent your entire iTunes library. As iTunes indicates when your backup completes, restoring from these discs is simply a matter of inserting them into your computer. iTunes will detect a backup disc, and immediately offer you the opportunity to restore from it.

There is Limitations of iTunes’ back up to disc feature, although iTunes’ built-in backup feature is a handy way for users with small libraries to create quick and easy backups. I hope the information is useful for you regardless. If this way is out above your reach, you can try the second method.

Rent a Movie from iTunes Store

Published by iTunes Master on July 14th, 2011 - in iTunes

iTunes Store is the biggest online digital media store with over 200,000 items to purchase from Apple which can be downloaed from www.itunes.com/download. Most people probably know that movie rent is available from the iTunes Store, but there are a number of conditions that affect what you can and can’t do with rentals. Here’s an overview of how you rent a movie from iTunes store.

At first, the system should be checked for compliance with the minimum requirements to rent movies. iTunes 10 or later on computer, iOS 4.2 or later on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and Apple TV software version 2.0 or later on Apple TV are in accordance with the requirements to rent movies from iTunes store.

Secondly, to open the iTunes on your computer and click “iTunes Store”. When you logged in iTunes Store, you can select a movie you want to rent from new releases and catalog titles. Browse the iTunes Store and look for movies with a Rent button, or check the Top Rentals Charts to find top sellers. At this moment, movie rentals are important to note that $2.99 for library titles and $3.99 for new releases. And for just a dollar more, you can rent HD movies directly from your computer or widescreen TV via Apple TV. Rent a movie and you have 30 days to start watching it. Hit Play, and you have 24 hours to finish it — or watch it as many times as you want. Rentals disappear when they expire, so they won’t take up space on your hard drive. Once you click Rent, your movie will begin to download immediately. It is likely to take a long time to download a movie, which is up to the speed of your Internet connection.

You can not appreciate the film on your computer, iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV until the movie is downloaded. And you should make sure that the rental has been transferred to a supported iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. There are four steps to transfer a rented movie as following:

1. Connect the device and select it in iTunes.

2. Click the Movies tab (for iPod), or the Videos tab (iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV)

3. Select the movie, and then click Move.

4. After all movies have been moved; click Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.

After the rental is transferred, it disappeared from your computer’s iTunes library. There is no restriction on number of times to move the movie between devices during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time. The rented movie can be played as many times as you wish within the 24-hour (or 48-hour) window because the movie will automatically delete itself from your computer or portable device.
